(CNA, reporter Kuan Jui-ping, Miaoli County, June 18) Multiple bullet holes were discovered today on the metal gate of a residence in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County. Given that the second floor displays a campaign billboard for Chen Kuang-hsuan, a county councilor from the Democratic Progressive Party, the timing and location are sensitive. Police have accepted the report and are currently investigating, having initially reviewed surveillance footage indicating a street dispute between two groups.
Chen Kuang-hsuan posted on Facebook stating that he rented a wall at a residence in Shishan Village, Nanzhuang Township to hang a billboard. The landlord called to inform him that the house was suspected of being shot at, and shell casings were found at the scene. "It is estimated that someone fired a gun in the early morning hours."
Chen Kuang-hsuan told CNA that the residence is located on the road in front of the Shitoushan archway. The campaign banner was hung there only in the last one to two months, and it is a new location. He has never hung anything there before. Because he has filed multiple reports in the past two years in the Nanzhuang area regarding abandoned waste and illegal development, and has also received threats by phone and been followed by vehicles, it is unavoidable to suspect that malicious individuals may be seeking revenge during the election period.
Chen Kuang-hsuan stated that no one normally lives in this residence, but the landlord visits almost every day to inspect and clean. Today, while cleaning, the landlord discovered shell casings in front of the gate and several suspicious bullet holes on the metal gate. He strongly condemned the violent incident, saying, "No matter what dissatisfaction one has with a matter, one should not use irrational behavior to warn others."
Upon receiving the report, the Toufen Precinct of the Miaoli County Police Bureau immediately dispatched the detective squad, the local police station, and forensic personnel to collect relevant evidence. After reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding intersections and establishing a special task force, an investigation is underway.
Police stated that the metal gates of two residences were penetrated by bullets. Fortunately, no one was injured. Preliminary investigations suggest it was a street dispute between two groups. Efforts are ongoing to track down related vehicles and involved individuals. The case is being investigated under the direction of a prosecutor from the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office. Specific suspects have been identified, and efforts are being made to apprehend them. (Editor: Liang Chun-ti) 1150618
