Taipei, June 18 (CNA) Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu said Wednesday that competition among businesses today is not just about products, but more importantly about brand and trust. While Taiwan's economy has been supported by its excellent manufacturing capabilities in the past, it should be based on brand reputation and good governance in the future.
Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu attended the "2026 28th Trusted Brands Awards Ceremony" at the Regent Taipei Hotel this afternoon. Distinguished guests included Taiwan Trusted Brands Association Chairman Tsao Fu-sheng, Founding Honorary Chairman Liu Wei-chi, Honorary Advisor Hsu Shih-chun, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Lai Chien-hsin, Presidential Office National Policy Advisor Liao Chuan-ping, At-Large Ambassador简又新, and representatives of award-winning trusted brands.
In his speech, Han noted that the Trusted Brands survey, first organized by Reader's Digest in 1999, has been conducted for nearly 30 years, long recording consumer trust and expectations for brands in Taiwan through their most authentic voices. The Taiwan Trusted Brands Association, officially established this year, will continue to shoulder this important mission. It is a weighty responsibility and symbolizes a new phase in the institutionalization and publicization of trusted brand evaluations, which is highly significant.
Han pointed out that in the past, when discussing corporate competitiveness, people first thought of quality, technology, and market size. However, with the advent of the AI era, consumers are acquiring information at an ever-increasing speed, and their demands for corporate transparency, social responsibility, and sustainable governance have also risen simultaneously.
Han stated that competition among businesses today is not just about products, but about brands; and not just about brands, but more importantly about "trust." Trust is the most core asset of a business and the key to whether a brand can operate for a long time. While Taiwan's economy has been supported by its excellent manufacturing capabilities in the past, it should be based on brand reputation and good governance in the future, upgrading "Made in Taiwan" to "It's Well Made in Taiwan" to continue winning recognition and respect in the global market.
Han mentioned that he hosted the EU Representative to Taiwan and related officials for lunch today. European friends mentioned that Europe's past understanding of Taiwan was insufficient, and they often mistakenly identified Taiwan as Thailand. However, in recent years, with the significant advancements in Taiwan's semiconductor industry and technological manufacturing capabilities, as well as the international expansion of its businesses, the world has seen Taiwan's strength and value. This has led to Taiwan receiving increasing international attention, which in turn has led the international community to pay more attention to the quality and reputation represented by Taiwanese brands.
Han pointed out that Taiwan's land area accounts for only about 0.03% of the world's total, and its population is about 0.3% of the global population. However, its industrial output accounts for about 3% of the world's total, which is a remarkable achievement. In addition to the world-renowned semiconductor industry, Taiwan's healthcare system, universal health insurance system, and its "hidden champion" companies in various industrial fields all demonstrate strong vitality and competitiveness.
Han indicated that from the various products used by the public in daily life, such as tools, shoes, socks, hats, and sporting goods, to the supply chains behind internationally renowned brands, and even the racks in well-known international chain restaurants, the presence of Taiwanese businesses can be seen, allowing the world to re-recognize Taiwan's value.
Han stated that a nation's ability to shine on the international stage relies on the collective efforts of all its citizens. Just as all the award-winning companies and the organizers have long adhered to their positions and pursued excellence, as long as everyone does their best in their respective fields of work, Taiwan will surely continue to shine on the world stage.
