NEW YORK, June 18 (CNA) — According to the New York Police Department, a large-scale brawl broke out in Times Square earlier today, resulting in a stabbing and reports of gunfire that caused crowds to flee in panic. A 17-year-old juvenile has been taken into custody.

As reported by ABC7NY, a 26-year-old man was stabbed near the intersection of West 45th Street and Eighth Avenue at approximately 3:40 p.m. today. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended by police on suspicion of discharging a firearm during the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.

Surveillance footage captured a group of individuals at the scene; one male dressed in black appears to point a firearm forward before fleeing. Authorities have recovered a weapon from the area. Police investigations are ongoing to determine if there is a direct link between the stabbing and the shooting.
