Tribute to the "Iron-Blooded Poet" Wu Zhuoliu: Hsinchu County Government's Literary Creation Course to Debut in July

(CNA reporter Chiu Tzu-yu, Taipei, June 20) The Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau will hold the "Creating Water Moon - Wu Zhuoliu Literary Creation Course" event in July, inviting students to pay tribute to the "Iron-Blooded Poet" Wu Zhuoliu through diverse courses in classical poetry, essays, and novels.

This event is part of the 2026 Hsinchu County Literary Season, with Wenxun Magazine serving as the executive planner. According to information provided by Wenxun Magazine, the course name is taken from Wu Zhuoliu's 1936 short story "Water Moon," published in "Taiwan New Literature" magazine. Wu Zhuoliu's debut at the age of 37 astonished the literary world.

Wu Zhuoliu once stated that before this, he had never aspired to be a novelist. It was the publication of "Water Moon" that greatly encouraged him, leading him to create a "moon in the water" with his words and forge a path for Taiwanese literature between illusion and reality.

The creation course will span three consecutive days, combining indoor sessions at the Le Phare co-working space in Zhubei with field trips to Wu Zhuoliu's former residence in Hsinchu County. The curriculum includes analysis and writing of Han poetry, documentary writing, short and long novels, and essays, interspersed with Hakka language readings and folk song appreciation, offering both academic depth and cultural experience.

The lineup of instructors includes writers and scholars such as Liao Chen-fu, Wu Pei-chen, Chiu Yi-fan, Wu Tsai-chang, Pan Fu-chun, Chiu Shu, Chu Yu-hsun, Hsu Chen-ling, and Kan Yao-ming.

This event is limited to student registration, with priority given to Hsinchu County residents. The list of accepted and waitlisted participants will be announced on the event page and the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau's fan page on July 8.
