(CNA Sydney, June 20, comprehensive foreign reports) Australian Agriculture Minister Julie Collins confirmed today that Australia has recorded its first domestic case of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza, with the case detected in a remote area of the country's southwest.

Collins stated that test results confirmed that wild birds found on a beach approximately 700 kilometers southeast of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, carried this viral strain.

Authorities had announced yesterday that a migratory bird, a "brown skua" found in Cape Le Grand National Park, tested positive for avian influenza, pending further confirmation of the viral type.

In recent years, Australia has strengthened farm biosecurity measures, conducted disease testing on coastal birds, vaccinated high-risk species, and planned epidemic response scenarios through simulation exercises to prevent H5N1 avian influenza. (Compiled by Shi Shi) 1150620
