Han Kuo-yu to Lead Legislative Delegation to U.S. on June 21, Plans Visit to TSMC Phoenix Plant

(CNA, Taipei, June 20) - Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu will lead a bipartisan delegation of lawmakers to the United States tomorrow, with their first stop scheduled to be in Phoenix, Arizona, to visit the local TSMC plant. The delegation will then proceed to Washington D.C. to meet with U.S. congressional members and may also meet with U.S. administrative officials.

At the invitation of the United States, Han Kuo-yu will lead seven bipartisan legislators on a visit to the U.S. starting June 21 to engage in congressional diplomacy. The delegation members include KMT legislators Lin Ssu-ming, Lai Ssu-pao, and Yang Chiung-ying; DPP legislators Chen Kuan-ting, Li Po-yi, and Kuo Yu-ching; and TPP legislator Hung Yu-hsiang. They are expected to return to Taiwan on June 26.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the delegation will arrive at their first destination, Phoenix, Arizona, on June 21 (U.S. time) to conduct an on-site inspection of the local TSMC plant. A luncheon will be held with overseas Chinese to foster exchanges and strengthen ties.

It is understood that the delegation will travel to Washington D.C. on June 23 to meet with U.S. congressional members and may also meet with U.S. administrative officials. Sources indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated time for meetings with U.S. administrative departments within the itinerary, but the specific departments and levels are currently unknown, possibly including think tanks or the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). Additionally, they will attend a dinner hosted by the Representative to the U.S., Alexander Tah-ray Yui.

The delegation is set to depart tomorrow evening. Before boarding, Han Kuo-yu will deliver remarks at Taoyuan Airport to explain the goals and expectations of the visit. Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, Johnny Chiang, will be present to see them off. (Editor: Wan Shu-chang) 1150620
