"Shui-Jin-Jiu Tram" has recently become a hot topic of debate in the New Taipei City mayoral election between the KMT and DPP. KMT candidate Li Chuan-chuan stated that he would restore the tram if elected, while DPP candidate Su Chiao-hui said the tram must be revitalized.
The New Taipei City mayoral election is heating up, with both blue and green camps having packed schedules on the weekend. This morning, Li Chuan-chuan and Su Chiao-hui separately visited the Fu Cheng Temple in Xiaojilong, Sanzhi, New Taipei City, to participate in the procession of the Golden-Faced Mazu, commonly known as the "Sanzhi Grand Worship."
Li Chuan-chuan expressed his affinity for Sanzhi, a coastal area, as he comes from a family of fishermen. He was very happy to return to Sanzhi to thank Mazu for her blessings and prayed that Mazu would bless all travelers and local residents with good health, peace, and success.
Su Chiao-hui stated that if she becomes the mayor of New Taipei City, she will cooperate with the second phase of the Tamsui New Town development plan, accelerate the evaluation of light rail extension to Sanzhi, and continue to improve the living and industrial functions of areas such as Tamsui, Sanzhi, and Shimen, "making the North Coast Taiwan's most dazzling crown."
The restoration of the "Shui-Jin-Jiu Tram" has recently become one of the hot topics of debate between the blue and green camps. Li Chuan-chuan told reporters at the opening ceremony of the New Taipei City Chung Cheng Cup National Sports Dance Open Competition this afternoon that he welcomes opponents to follow good policies. He has inspected the site multiple times during his tenure as Deputy Magistrate of Taipei County and Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City. If elected mayor, he will definitely address the land pollution issues and restore the tram.
Su Chiao-hui's campaign office spokesperson Liu Fang-yu stated that Su Chiao-hui clearly outlined the tourism vision of "resuming tram service" in a video on her personal YouTube channel "New Taipei Treasure Box" in September 2024, together with Wu Gan-zheng, the village chief of Shishan Village in Ruifang District.
Su Chiao-hui also told reporters that the tram is not just a means of transportation, but also a childhood memory for the locals of Shui-Jin-Jiu and a sense of identity with the area. She believes that the tram must be revitalized, which was the goal she wanted to present in the video she filmed in 2024. As long as it is beneficial to New Taipei, and everyone is on the same page, it can gather more strength, which is actually a good thing. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 0621
