(CNA reporter Liu Jian-bang, Taipei, June 21) As the Taipei mayoral election atmosphere gradually heats up, Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang continued his temple visits and market strolls today. After visiting Hulu Temple this morning, he was interviewed and spoke about plans for waterfront facilities in the surrounding area and his vision for connecting the Shezi region.

Shen Po-yang held a joint interview with Taipei City Councilor Lin Yen-feng, Chen Hsien-wei, and others after visiting Taipei's Hulu Temple this morning. Shen Po-yang mentioned his vision for nearby waterfront facilities, stating that the Taipei City Government should continue to develop waterfront sports facilities in the area.

Shen Po-yang said that related waterfront sports facilities should be continuously built and maintained. This area is adjacent to the Shezi region and the Beitou-Shihlin Science Park, and there should be overall planning to preserve traditional settlements while integrating and coexisting with new settlements.

When responding to areas that need improvement regarding waterfront facilities, Shen Po-yang said that the nearby courts, portable toilets, and lighting all require repairs. Party representatives have assisted in appealing to the local government, but progress is slow. Continuous improvement is necessary to ensure the safety and peace of mind of citizens exercising by the riverside.

When asked about the Shezi Island development issue, Shen Po-yang said that public hearings are for gathering resident opinions, not for policy promotion. If it were the latter, issuing a press release would suffice. Moreover, not everyone in the area opposes development or renewal; the issue is how the resettlement plan will proceed. He believes continuous communication is necessary to resolve the Shezi Island development situation.

Shen Po-yang also said that the Shezi region should be connected with the North Shihlin Science Park to form an industrial cluster. Many cities around the world with riversides are major tourist destinations. He believes a large-scale plan should be formulated from a "soft" perspective, such as connecting different attractions and commercial districts.

Shen Po-yang said that the most important thing for Taiwan currently is to boost the economy, but the fruits of economic growth should be "evenly distributed" so that everyone can enjoy them. The role of local governments, in addition to helping connect industries, is to ensure that commercial districts also benefit from economic growth.

He said, for example, the proposed "Parent-Child Travel Card" policy not only allows parent-child families to use it but also allows certified merchants to benefit from revenue. Subsequently, policies will be proposed to assist young people in obtaining their first pot of gold and provide housing subsidies. Allowing citizens to live easily can invigorate the city's economy and culture, and allow every citizen to enjoy the fruits of economic growth. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 0621115
