(CNA, Penghu County, June 21) Penghu was shrouded in dense fog early this morning, with visibility less than 100 meters. The fog gradually dissipated after 7 AM as temperatures rose. The airport stated that due to the dense fog, 4 flights have been canceled and many others delayed. Normal takeoffs and landings are expected to resume by 10 AM at the earliest.
The Penghu Weather Station indicated that the fog in the Penghu area is typically advection fog or sea fog, common from spring to early summer. Today, coinciding with the summer solstice, satellite imagery showed that the weather was relatively stable when the dense fog appeared early this morning. It is believed to be a result of warm air over the sea meeting cooler seawater, forming advection radiation fog under a southerly wind. As the sun appeared and temperatures rose after 7 AM, the dense fog gradually retreated.
Penghu experienced high humidity and a cool feeling early this morning, with water droplets covering tree leaves. Under the dense fog, vehicles traveling within the island turned on their headlights due to poor visibility.
The Penghu Airport reported that the Penghu Airport was affected by dense fog early this morning, leading to flight schedule changes. Four flights on routes to Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Taipei have been canceled, and most other flights have been delayed. A crowd of travelers returning to Taiwan after the holiday has gathered at Penghu Airport. As visibility is currently only 400 meters, normal takeoffs and landings are not expected to resume until visibility reaches 800 meters, likely around 10 AM. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150621
