Police Patrol Car Flips After Colliding With Taxi During Chase in Keelung; 3 Injured, No Serious Harm

(Central News Agency, reporter Wang Chaoyu, Keelung, June 21) Early this morning in Keelung City, a police patrol car, while pursuing a motorcyclist for dangerous driving and evading inspection, accidentally collided with a taxi, causing the patrol car to flip over. Two police officers and one taxi passenger were sent to the hospital, but fortunately, all sustained no serious injuries.

Around 0:00 AM today, Officer Xu of the Dawulun Police Station, Fourth Precinct of the Keelung City Police Bureau, was patrolling with Officer Lin in a patrol car along Huhai Road when they spotted a motorcycle suspected of dangerous driving. The rider refused to stop for inspection and accelerated away.

Officer Xu pursued the motorcycle in the patrol car. At the intersection of Xinwu Road and Yi'er Road, the patrol car collided with a taxi, causing the patrol car to flip over and then scrape the rear of a car parked in a parking space. The taxi then hit the rolling shutter door of a ground-floor shop on Yi'er Road.

When rescue personnel arrived, Officer Xu suspected a concussion, and Officer Lin had abrasions on his chin. The taxi passenger, Mr. Huang, although showing no obvious injuries, was disoriented due to intoxication. The three were subsequently sent to the Keelung Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, for treatment. Fortunately, none of the three were in life-threatening condition.

Police administered breathalyzer tests, and neither driver had any alcohol in their system. Police managed traffic control and diversion at the scene and removed the accident vehicles.
