(Taipei, Taiwan, June 21, 2024, CNA, Reuters) French authorities confirmed today that one of the founders of the globally renowned game developer Ubisoft, known for "Assassin's Creed," died in a plane crash in western France.
According to an Associated Press report, Franck Louvrier, the mayor of La Baule-Escoublac, confirmed in a statement that a twin-engine Cessna 421 aircraft carrying Claude Guillemot and a flight instructor crashed near the airport in La Baule on the evening of the 19th.
Louvrier stated that both individuals held pilot licenses and had extensive flying experience. The flight instructor also died in the accident. Relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Ubisoft confirmed Guillemot's death but offered no further comment.
An airport official told the Associated Press that the plane crashed in a nearby field just before landing at La Baule-Escoublac Airport. The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, requested anonymity.
Guillemot co-founded Ubisoft with his four brothers in 1986. In addition to the globally popular "Assassin's Creed" series, Ubisoft's other hit games include "Just Dance," as well as the "Rayman" and "Tom Clancy" series. (Compiled by Chen Yu-ting) 1150621
