(Central News Agency reporter Chang Shu-ling, Beijing, June 22) With the US-China trade war not yet over and a potential China-Europe trade war brewing, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said today that China does not deliberately pursue a trade surplus, and the biggest obstacle to increasing imports does not lie with China itself, but with some countries that abuse export controls.

The 4th China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo opened in Beijing today. Ding Xuexiang, speaking at the opening ceremony, stated that China, as a responsible major country, is taking practical actions to resolutely stabilize global industrial and supply chains.

The expo was launched at a time when major world countries are increasing their concerns about China's overcapacity and Chinese-made products, and the international supply chain is undergoing transformation. However, after the US increased tariffs on Chinese products, China's exports remained strong, with its trade surplus exceeding one trillion US dollars for the first time in 2025, reaching 1.18 trillion US dollars, further arousing the vigilance of many countries, who worry that their domestic manufacturing industries are more threatened.

In his opening address, Ding Xuexiang claimed that China's industrial competitiveness is "never due to protecting enterprises," but is the result of the combined effects of a complete industrial system promoted by reform and opening up, a super-large market, and continuous innovation from a vast pool of talent.

He said that China is the world's second-largest consumer market and import market, and a major trading partner for over 160 countries and regions. Imports now exceed 20 trillion yuan annually. "China never deliberately pursues a trade surplus, but actively expands imports, promotes stable trade development, and is willing to provide more opportunities for all countries in the world, sharing the Chinese market with all parties."

He also stated that the biggest obstacle to China increasing imports does not lie with China itself, but with some countries that "generalize the concept of security and abuse export controls."

Regarding coping with shocks, Ding Xuexiang said that at a time when shipping is disrupted in the Strait of Hormuz, and the world is worried about supply chain disruptions due to issues with oil, gas, and fertilizers, China is actively maintaining the international energy market. "Made in China does not cause trouble or fail at critical moments, striving to become a dynamic resource for the stability and freedom of the global economy."

Finally, Ding Xuexiang proposed four suggestions for maintaining the stable and smooth flow of global industrial and supply chains: strengthening mutual trust, strengthening trade facilitation, strengthening integrated development, and strengthening resource sharing. He stated in his speech that engaging in trade wars and tariff wars will only lead the world into more disputes. (Editor: Lu Jia-rong) 1150622
