(CNA Taipei, June 22) A serious mine disaster occurred in Qinyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi, China in May, resulting in at least 82 deaths. According to the website of the Shanxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, Geng Qinglu, a third-level researcher at the Eighth Supervision and Enforcement Division of the Shanxi Bureau of the China National Mine Safety Administration, is suspected of serious violations of law, related to the mine disaster.

Following the accident, several officials in Shanxi were successively arrested. 11 days after the mine disaster, Zhao Yongjin, the top official of Qinyuan County, was officially arrested; Zhang Heping, deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial Emergency Management Department, was also announced to be under investigation on the evening of June 10.
