Taipei, June 22 (CNA) Taiwanese professional golfer Hsu Wei-ling secured a tie for third place at the LPGA's Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday, marking her first top-10 finish of the season and signaling a breakthrough after a difficult first half of the year. Hsu also revealed, "I've planned to participate in the Asian Games and am very much looking forward to my first experience there."
Hsu, 31, has competed in 13 tournaments this season, making the cut in 10. However, prior to Sunday's event, her best finish was a tie for 28th, a performance that fell short of her previous achievements.
In the final round of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Meijer LPGA Classic in the United States, Hsu shot an impressive 67, securing her a tie for third place. This marks her highest individual finish since winning the LPGA Pure Silk Championship in May 2021.
Hsu remarked with a smile, "I didn't even realize it had been so long since I last finished in the top 3 until I checked the results."
Hsu told CNA reporters that the first half of the season was indeed challenging. Despite hiring a new athletic trainer this year and diligently working on her fitness weekly, she felt she might have been too eager for results, becoming overly concerned with outcomes. This led her to nitpick her own performance, increasing the pressure with even minor mistakes.
Hsu also mentioned experiencing physical ailments in addition to on-course issues. "My allergies have been particularly severe this year, especially to certain types of grass and pollen on the course. For several nights, I couldn't sleep due to coughing, and even lying down was difficult. Fortunately, things started to improve somewhat as summer arrived."
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Hsu revealed her plans to compete in the Asian Games in Nagoya. "I didn't have the opportunity to participate during my amateur career. It's fortunate that professional players were allowed to compete in the Asian Games last time. I'm really looking forward to my debut at the Asian Games and hope to achieve good results representing my country." (Edited by Chang Ya-ching) 11506-22)
