Taipei, June 23 (CNA) A thief who stole underwear in Taipei's Xinyi District for three consecutive days was reported to the police by a resident. The victim then started hanging out grandmother's underwear, but the suspect, a 70-year-old man named Chen, returned yesterday and instead stole his neighbor's shoes. The local police were notified, rushed to the scene, arrested him, and sent him for prosecution.
A female netizen posted on the Facebook group "Liuzhangli Residents' Matters" yesterday, showing photos and text stating that her underwear was stolen for three consecutive days during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. In addition to filing a police report, she and her partner monitored their home surveillance cameras to catch the culprit. On June 22, they witnessed the incident, but because she had switched to hanging out grandmother's underwear, it was not stolen. The thief then turned to stealing the shoes of the next-door neighbor. She not only rushed to catch the person but also quickly called the police, and thanked a passing female motorcyclist for helping to subdue the suspect.
The Xinyi Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department also stated through a press release today that the Liuzhangli Police Station recently received a report from a resident stating that her personal female clothing hung outside her home had been repeatedly stolen for several days, with losses exceeding NT$10,000. After reviewing the surveillance camera footage from her home, it was discovered that the same suspect was responsible.
The police received a report from the victim early yesterday morning, stating that through live imaging, they once again spotted the suspect. They witnessed him stealing his neighbor's sports shoes, putting them into his bicycle basket, and preparing to leave. They immediately intercepted him.
