Taiwan Black Bear Habitat Highlighted in "Friendly Bear Forest" Art Exhibition at Walami

(CNA, reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, June 23) The eastern areas of Yushan National Park, such as the Walami Trail and Dafen area, are important habitats for the Taiwan black bear. Starting July 1, the park administration will hold a children's art exhibition and display exhibits of bear traces at the Nan'an Visitor Center, hoping to provide visitors with preliminary knowledge about Taiwan black bears before they enter the mountains.

The Yushan National Park Administration of the National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior, stated today that the Walami Trail in Zhuoxi Township boasts rich forest ecology and is an important area for wildlife activity. Signs of Taiwan black bears are often seen, or they may be encountered. Therefore, before visitors enter the national park, they can learn about the current status of Taiwan black bear species, the environmental overview, and potential issues at the Nan'an Visitor Center.

The Yushan National Park Administration, in collaboration with the Taiwan Black Bear Conservation Association, will host the "Friendly Bear Forest Under Walami, Taiwan Black Bear Ecology Children's Painting Exhibition" from July 1 this year to August 31 next year at the Nan'an Visitor Center in Zhuoxi Township, Hualien County. In addition to exhibiting 29 children's artworks, the exhibition will also feature displays of Taiwan black bear feeding traces, claw marks, scat, and introductions to their diet.

The park administration stated that the exhibition's content focuses on the conservation status of the Taiwan black bear and eight other bear species worldwide. Through the integration of visuals and information, visitors will be guided to gradually understand the value of coexistence and conservation between humans and wildlife. Concurrently, ecological lectures from the Taiwan Black Bear Education Center will be linked to provide visitors with easily understandable knowledge about Taiwan black bears, in hopes of jointly maintaining natural beauty and protecting wildlife.
