Taipei, June 23 (CNA) Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu is leading a cross-party delegation of legislators on a visit to the United States, with Phoenix as the first stop. The delegation will gain firsthand understanding of Taiwanese companies' investments and industrial layouts in the U.S., demonstrating the Legislative Yuan's high regard for promoting economic and trade exchanges and industrial cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S.
The Legislative Yuan stated in a press release today that Han Kuo-yu is leading a cross-party legislative delegation on a visit to the U.S. In the morning, the delegation visited the Taiwan AI Biomedical Joint Exhibition Center in Phoenix. This center is an important overseas exhibition platform that combines Taiwan's strengths in artificial intelligence (AI) and the biomedical industry, bringing together 12 leading Taiwanese AI medical companies, one hospital sleep center, and two university research units, showcasing Taiwan's R&D capabilities in AI, precision health, innovative medical devices, and telemedicine.
The Legislative Yuan pointed out that upon the delegation's arrival, remarks were made by Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington, Arizona Department of Commerce Deputy Director Agnese Sturmane, and Arizona State University Executive Vice President of Health Sciences Sherine Gabriel. Briefings were also provided on how the Arizona state government, the Phoenix city government, and Arizona State University are jointly promoting the innovative development of the biotechnology and medical industry with Taiwan through industry-government-academia cooperation.
During his speech, Han Kuo-yu stated that before visiting Arizona, many people were curious why TSMC and the Taiwan AI Biomedical Joint Exhibition Center in Phoenix chose to be located there. After listening to the briefings, he understood that in addition to conditions such as land and utility supply, the close partnership between the government, academia, and industry is precisely Phoenix's most attractive advantage.
Subsequently, Yang Shu-chen, Vice Chairperson of the Hsinchu Science Park Medical Device Industry Association, provided a briefing on the background of the center's establishment, its collaborative partners, and an overview of the resident companies, as well as explaining several innovative biotechnology and medical products and R&D achievements. Yang Shu-chen also led the delegation on a site visit to the exhibition center to understand the applications of various technologies and operational status, witnessing the collaborative achievements between Taiwan and the U.S. in the field of smart healthcare.
The Legislative Yuan indicated that at noon, the Legislative Yuan hosted a banquet to entertain representatives of Taiwanese businesses and overseas compatriots in Arizona. In his speech, Han Kuo-yu expressed his honor in leading the cross-party delegation to visit Phoenix and to gain an in-depth understanding of Phoenix's investment environment and development potential, as well as the status of industrial cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. through on-site visits.
Han Kuo-yu thanked overseas compatriots for their hard work over the years, likening them to seeds that have taken root, blossomed, and borne fruit in foreign lands. He further described the contributions of overseas compatriots worldwide, who have long cared about their homeland and promoted exchanges between Taiwan and the U.S., as "sun never-setting Taiwanese businesses" and "sun never-setting Taiwanese compatriots." The Legislative Yuan will always stand with overseas compatriots and looks forward to the opportunity to host overseas compatriots at the Legislative Yuan in the future.
