SEOUL, June 23 (CNA) -- Amidst the global AI boom, South Korean chip giants SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics are not only stock market darlings, but their generous bonus systems have also propelled their employees to the top tier of the Korean dating market, ranking alongside traditional elite professions such as doctors and lawyers.
According to Reuters, Son Dong-gyu, CEO of matchmaking agency Bien Aller, stated, "If employees of SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics were previously classified as B+ or A- level dating prospects, they are now more like A+ level."
Son Dong-gyu added, "Traditionally, A+ level prospects included doctors, lawyers, other high-paying professionals, or individuals from extremely wealthy families."
Lee Sung-mi, a matchmaking consultant at SUNOO, commented, "People still prefer traditional professions like doctors, lawyers, and dentists, but recently, when we introduce someone working at SK Hynix, the reaction is often, 'Wow, are there people like this here?'"
This chip craze is also reshaping South Korea's educational paths, where medical and law schools have been the top choices for Koreans for many years.
Career consultants say that an increasing number of job seekers are vying for positions at Samsung and SK Hynix, including high school students who have not yet entered the workforce. Some cram schools have even started offering classes specifically to help applicants prepare for job interviews at these two companies.
As some positions in semiconductor factories only require a high school education, some students are considering attending vocational schools instead. (Compiled by Zhang Mingxuan) 1150623
