MLB: Taiwanese player Li Hao-yu scores a run as Tigers defeat Yankees for 4th straight win [Video]

Taipei, June 23 (CNA) Taiwanese prospect Li Hao-yu of the Detroit Tigers started in today's Major League Baseball (MLB) game, recording one hit and one run in three at-bats. The Tigers defeated the New York Yankees 5-3, extending their winning streak to four games.

Li Hao-yu, a 23-year-old Taiwanese player for the Tigers, started at eighth in the batting order and played second base. In the bottom of the second inning, with runners on base, he struck out against Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, facing Cole again, Li Hao-yu hit a fastball to right field for a single. After one out, he scored on a double by Kevin McGonigle, adding the team's fourth run.

Li Hao-yu hit a line drive to right field for an out in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on base, he executed a sacrifice bunt to advance them. In total today, he had one hit in three at-bats, one strikeout, and one run scored. He has recorded a hit in his last two games, and his batting average is now .234.

The Yankees took the lead in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the third, the Tigers tied the game with a triple by Zach McKinstry and a ground ball, then took the lead with a series of consecutive hits.

The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Riley Greene hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 5-1. The Yankees narrowed the gap in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer by Amed Rosario, but their offense stalled, leading to the loss.
