(CNA reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 24) The Ministry of Transportation and Communications will implement two major new systems in July. These include the Taiwan Railways Administration's (TRA) annual timetable revision starting July 1, affecting a total of 653 train services, and the Central Weather Administration's (CWA) typhoon swell warning, which will go live on July 1 to reduce casualties caused by large waves.

Several new systems are set to be implemented in July, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications today compiled the two major new systems launching on July 1.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that the TRA is undertaking a comprehensive capacity allocation and planning to enhance service quality. In conjunction with the planned opening of Pingzhen Station (temporary station) in October, train schedules will be adjusted starting July 1, affecting a total of 653 train services. Passengers are advised to pay close attention before boarding.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications pointed out that to improve the safety of coastal residents during typhoon warnings and strengthen disaster prevention awareness, the CWA will begin a trial from Typhoon Yangliu in 114 (2025) to issue warnings via the Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) to coastal townships that may encounter dangerous swells (wave heights of 6 meters or more).

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications said that the CWA will officially launch this initiative starting from this typhoon season. It will issue CBS alerts for coastal and nearshore areas in townships affected by typhoon swells. Local residents can receive timely warning notifications and simultaneously check relevant information on the CWA's official website to enhance reminders for people to avoid going to the beach to watch waves or engaging in coastal activities, thereby reducing the risk of casualties caused by large waves.
