(Central News Agency, reporter Zhao Liyan, Taichung, June 24) A resident in Taichung City forgot to place family dowry gold jewelry in the drawer compartment of the ancestral altar. Recently, the altar was cleared out along with discarded furniture. Upon discovering this, the resident rushed to notify the sanitation department, and the jewelry, valued at NT$2 million, was successfully recovered in 30 minutes.

Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau released a press release today stating that the Dongshi District Sanitation Team recently received a call from a resident who said that an elder in their family had carelessly placed a batch of family heirloom gold jewelry, stored in the drawer compartment of the ancestral altar, along with discarded furniture for disposal.

Sanitation workers were in the process of dismantling large discarded furniture when, upon receiving the report, they immediately checked the appointment records for large waste disposal and went to the temporary storage area for discarded furniture to search one by one. After a 30-minute search, the lost gold jewelry was successfully found, and the owner was notified to go to the Dongshi Police Station to jointly count and complete the relevant procedures.

A total of 27 valuable items, including gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, and gold bars, were recovered, with an estimated market value of nearly NT$2 million. The owner, Mr. Xie, stated that this batch of gold jewelry is an important dowry passed down through generations in his family, possessing not only financial value but also carrying family emotions and historical memories. He expressed gratitude to the Dongshi District Sanitation Team for their assistance, which allowed the precious assets to be recovered after being lost. (Editor: Li Shuhua) 1150624
