(Los Angeles, June 23, CNA Foreign News) International Football Federation (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino announced today that U.S. President Trump will attend the World Cup final on July 19 in New Jersey and present the award to the winning team.

AFP reported that Infantino said in an interview with the American program "Fox & Friends": "We will watch the final with the President, and of course, we will present the award to the winning team together."

Infantino has had a close relationship with Trump recently. Last year, he presented Trump with the newly established FIFA Peace Prize at the World Cup draw ceremony held in Washington.

This decision to present the award together stems from the controversy surrounding the award ceremony after Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey to win the FIFA Club World Cup championship last year.
