(CNA Taipei, June 24) Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok in Dalian on June 23. Li Qiang stated that China and South Korea can expand cooperation in emerging industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, new energy, and biomedicine.
Li Qiang attended the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, held in Dalian from June 23 to 24. During this period, he delivered a special address at the opening ceremony, met with foreign guests attending the forum in China, and held discussions with representatives from the business community.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Li Qiang met with Kim Min-seok on the afternoon of June 23. This marks Kim Min-seok's first visit to China since taking office.
Li Qiang stated that China is willing to work with South Korea to follow the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, respecting and accommodating each other's core interests and major concerns. China is also willing to adhere to equality and mutual benefit with South Korea, continuously expand the breadth and depth of cooperation, promote the long-term, healthy, and stable development of the China-South Korea strategic cooperative partnership, and jointly promote the prosperity of both countries and the region.
In terms of economic cooperation, Li Qiang pointed out that there is huge potential for trade cooperation between China and South Korea. China is willing to work with South Korea to effectively utilize mechanisms such as the ministerial meeting on economic cooperation between the two countries, accelerate the second phase of negotiations for the bilateral free trade agreement, and promote the expansion and upgrading of bilateral trade.
Li Qiang also said that China and South Korea have their own strengths in innovation, and their industrial and value chains are deeply integrated. They can further promote docking and interlocking, fully leverage complementary advantages, consolidate and optimize traditional industry cooperation, and expand cooperation in emerging industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, new energy, and biomedicine.
He also called for deeper exchanges and cooperation between China and South Korea in areas such as tourism, education, local government, youth, media, and think tanks, to continuously enhance the feelings between the people of both countries.
According to Chinese information, Kim Min-seok stated that South Korea looks forward to implementing the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries with China, strengthening high-level exchanges and dialogues at all levels, expanding cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, and high technology, accelerating the second phase of negotiations for the bilateral free trade agreement, and closely engaging in people-to-people exchanges in culture, tourism, and youth.
Kim Min-seok stated that South Korea welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in South Korea and is willing to deepen supply chain cooperation with China. South Korea actively supports China in hosting this year's APEC Economic Leaders' informal meeting and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China.
