Taipei, June 24 (CNA) - Netizens recently discovered a fake account impersonating the Ministry of Education on the social media platform Threads and have reported it. Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien stated today that the ministry is aware of similar situations and reminds the public to be vigilant to avoid being scammed.
Netizens found that a Threads account named "Ministry of Education of the Republic of China" was fake, attracting thousands of likes. The account has since been reported and removed. However, some netizens mistakenly believed that the officially verified Ministry of Education account "Ministry of Education YaTing (moe_tw)" was also a rebranded fake account, leading to reports that "friendly fire" occurred.
Speaking to reporters before a special report at the Legislative Yuan today, Chang Liao Wan-chien said that the ministry has noticed many similar situations online. The Ministry of Education will pay attention to this matter and reminds the public to avoid being scammed by fake accounts and to prevent malicious use by ill-intentioned individuals.
The Ministry of Education supplemented in writing that it had previously issued reminders regarding the misuse of its social media accounts. For relevant policy information, please refer to the official website and content published on the Ministry of Education's official social media accounts. The Facebook account is "Ministry of Education," and the Instagram and Threads accounts are "moe_tw." If an account suspected of impersonating the Ministry of Education is found, it will be reported to the platform for handling.
In addition, regarding the controversy surrounding school affairs meetings, Chang Liao Wan-chien reiterated that the current reform direction is to strengthen the front-end diversion mechanism to reduce unnecessary frivolous lawsuits. Through measures such as diverting large and small cases, the number of complaints has decreased, and the proportion of cases entering school affairs meetings has also declined.
Chang Liao Wan-chien stated that the ministry will continue to understand the thoughts of frontline teachers, including the assessment process after diversion, where about half of the cases are still handled by external investigations. The ministry will review how to reduce this. (Edited by Li Shu-hua) 1150624
