Alleged Kickbacks in School Renovation: Golden Leopard Casino Founders Arrested

(CNA, reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, June 24) The Taichung District Prosecutors Office yesterday summoned Yuan Chang-ping, founder of Taichung's Golden Leopard Casino, and his wife Wu Wan-ting for questioning. After interrogation, prosecutors today requested the court to detain the couple on charges of breach of trust and embezzlement of public funds. The Taichung District Court is currently holding a hearing.

The Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office stated today that prosecutors yesterday summoned Yuan Chang-ping and his wife, Wu Wan-ting, executive director of the Wei Ge International School, for questioning. After a follow-up interrogation by prosecutors, the office today requested the court to detain Yuan and Wu on charges of breach of trust and embezzlement of public funds under the Criminal Code.

It is understood that Yuan Chang-ping and others are accused of receiving kickbacks from contractors during the renovation of the Wei Ge International School. Prosecutors are currently investigating the case to clarify the facts. (Editor: Chen Ching-fang) 1150624
