Taipei, June 24 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration today issued a high-temperature advisory for 13 counties and cities, including greater Taipei, with Kaohsiung facing the possibility of an extreme high of 38°C. Expert Wu Der-rong warned that Typhoon Mikala is moving north along Taiwan's east coast today and tomorrow, and from the 26th, due to the influence of a frontal system and moisture from the typhoon's periphery, severe weather should be guarded against.

The Central Weather Administration today issued a high-temperature advisory, stating that the weather across the island will be hot. During the day today, Kaohsiung City is under an orange alert, with a chance of an extreme high temperature of 38°C. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Pingtung County, and Hualien County are under an orange alert, with a chance of continuous high temperatures of 36°C. Taichung City, Nantou County, and Chiayi County are under a yellow alert, with attention needed for temperatures above 36°C.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor at National Central University's Department of Atmospheric Sciences, stated today in the "Leaking Heavenly Secrets Classroom" column of the Foundation for the Promotion of Meteorological Applications that the latest European model simulation shows that the Pacific high-pressure system will cover the island today, with continued high temperatures and heat across the island. The highest temperature nationwide will be around 38°C, requiring attention to sun protection and heatstroke prevention, with occasional brief showers in localized areas.

Wu Der-rong stated that moisture will increase tomorrow, and the weather will turn unstable, with a high chance of localized brief showers, and strong convection development should be noted. On the 26th and 27th, as a frontal system approaches and Typhoon Mikala brings in moisture, "severe weather" (such as lightning strikes, strong winds, and short-duration heavy rainfall) should be guarded against, with a slight drop in temperature.

Wu Der-rong pointed out that from the 28th to the 30th, the frontal system will retreat northward, and the weather will gradually improve with rising temperatures. On the 28th, there will still be localized brief showers or thunderstorms. On the 29th and 30th, there will be localized afternoon showers. From July 1st to 3rd, the weather will be sunny to cloudy with hot daytime temperatures, and occasional localized showers in the mountains in the afternoon.

Wu Der-rong said that the latest typhoon track probability forecast map from the Central Weather Administration shows that Typhoon Mikala, the 7th typhoon, has weakened to a moderate typhoon. It will move north-northeast along Taiwan's east coast today and tomorrow, maintaining a path that does not approach Taiwan. Furthermore, as it moves further north, the "ocean heat content" will decrease, indicating a trend of continued weakening. It will pass near the Ryukyu Islands on the 26th and accelerate northeastward away from Taiwan on the 27th. While Mikala will not affect Taiwan, attention should be paid to long waves along the coast of eastern Taiwan.

Additionally, Wu Der-rong mentioned that Typhoon Nalgae, the 8th typhoon, is taking a large looping path, moving further away from Taiwan with no threat of approaching the island. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150624
