(CNA) - Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Hsiao-ting Lin said today that in response to China's gray-zone harassment in the Taiwan Strait, representative offices of the US, UK, France, and Germany in Taiwan have successively issued statements expressing concern, sending a clear signal to China's provocative actions. She called on Beijing to cease military intimidation and gray-zone coercion and abandon its attempts to change the status quo by force.

The DPP issued a press release stating that Lin said that the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait have become a common language among democratic countries in recent years. However, China continues to attempt to "internalize" the Taiwan Strait and further undermine the stability of the Indo-Pacific region. Such unreasonable actions make the world increasingly clear about who the troublemaker in the region is.

Lin said that at the 2026 G7 Summit, leaders of the seven nations once again issued a unified voice, not only reiterating their opposition to any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait by force or coercion but also expanding the scope of their attention from the Taiwan Strait to the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

Lin stated that the international community is seeking peaceful and stable regional development. In contrast, the Beijing authorities have continued to change the status quo through gray-zone coercion in recent years. These unreasonable actions by China each prove that the CCP authorities are the ones continuously changing the status quo through military threats, economic coercion, and legal warfare.

Lin emphasized that Taiwan stands at the forefront of the democratic defense line and is an important hub for the global semiconductor and high-tech supply chain. Taiwan safeguards not only its own democracy and freedom but also an indispensable link in global economic and technological development. Facing authoritarian expansion, Taiwan will continue to strengthen its self-defense capabilities, enhance its economic, technological, and social resilience, deepen cooperation with like-minded countries, and maintain the status quo with a responsible attitude, promoting healthy and orderly cross-strait exchanges.
