Taipei, June 29 (CNA) -- The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC) President Tsai Chi-fong, in the presence of Minister of Sport Lee Ming-yen, today renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) President Ryu Seung-min, demonstrating the deepening partnership between the two organizations and their shared desire to continue promoting sports exchange and cooperation.

Ryu Seung-min, who won the men's singles gold medal in table tennis at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games for South Korea, previously served as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission. He took office as KSOC President in 2025 and currently also serves as a member of the IOC's Education Commission, Olympic Games Commission, and the Coordination Commission for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Before the signing ceremony, Ryu Seung-min, accompanied by Tsai Chi-fong, paid a courtesy call to Lee Ming-yen, also an Olympic gold medalist. The meeting was cordial, with Lee Ming-yen expressing his hope for more substantive sports exchanges between Taiwan and South Korea in the future.

Tsai Chi-fong stated that during the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) General Assembly earlier this year, he exchanged views with Ryu Seung-min on deepening future sports exchanges, confirming the strong willingness of both sides for future cooperation.

The CTOC and KSOC first signed an exchange and cooperation agreement in 1999. In recent years, the two committees have continuously carried out exchange activities, including Ryu Seung-min's visit to Taiwan in 2023 to serve as a lecturer at a sports forum, and the KSOC sending representatives to Taiwan to participate in a training camp for international sports affairs talent.

The renewal of the MOU will help the two Olympic committees further consolidate their long-term friendly partnership, continue to expand diverse exchanges, jointly promote the development of sports in Asia, and inject more cooperative energy into the international Olympic movement.
