(CNA reporter Wang Po-erh Taipei, June 29) Photographer Shen Chao-liang will exhibit his "STAGE" series at Museo Camera in India in July. Lin Pin-hua, secretary of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, stated that this will be the first large-scale solo exhibition of a Taiwanese photographer held in India by the Ministry of Culture.
The Ministry of Culture announced today in a press release that the "STAGE" series to be exhibited focuses on the variety show culture that has developed in Taiwan since the 1970s. Variety shows have long been active in Taiwan's folk events such as weddings, funerals, and temple festivals. Their performance stages have gradually evolved from early electronic float stages to modern "hydraulic stage trucks," becoming a highly representative mobile entertainment landscape in Taiwan.
Shen Chao-liang documented the diverse forms of stage trucks across Taiwan from 2005 to 2023. Lin Pin-hua mentioned that in addition to the static exhibition, a series of lectures are planned, inviting Shen Chao-liang to interact with the local art community and audiences, share his creations, and discuss how documentary photography can be a key medium for understanding social culture. The hope is to allow South Asian audiences to experience Taiwanese photographic art.
Shen Chao-liang's "STAGE" solo photography exhibition will be held from July 3 to July 28 at Museo Camera in the Greater Delhi region of India. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150629
