(CNA) Taipei, June 29 - Due to a high number of traffic accidents at the intersection of Heping West Road and Chongqing South Road in Taipei's Zhongzheng District, the Taipei City Police Department's Traffic Division announced today that technology enforcement equipment will be installed for testing starting July 1. Formal enforcement will begin on October 1, and drivers are reminded to be aware.
The Traffic Division stated in a press release this afternoon that to enhance traffic safety, multi-functional technology enforcement equipment will be installed at the intersection of Heping West Road and Chongqing South Road. The period from July 1 to September 30 will be a promotional period, with formal enforcement and ticketing for violations commencing on October 1. The violations to be enforced include "running red lights, vehicles failing to yield to pedestrians, and driving without obeying signs, lines, or signals."
Furthermore, to help drivers develop good driving habits, the Traffic Division said that during the testing and promotional period, a "Promotional Notice of Violation of Road Traffic Management Regulations" (no penalty) will be mailed via registered mail to individuals who commit violations. This notice will inform them of the violation during the testing period and specify when the technology enforcement equipment at the location will officially begin operation, reminding the public to strictly adhere to traffic rules.
The Traffic Division explained that the purpose of installing the technology enforcement is to reduce traffic violations and promote road safety and smooth traffic flow by increasing enforcement intensity. Drivers are reminded that when approaching intersections, straight-moving vehicles should not occupy dedicated left (or right) turn lanes, and left (or right) turning vehicles should move into the inner (or outer) dedicated turn lanes in advance and proceed according to signs, lines, and signals, without crossing double white (or yellow) lines, to ensure driving safety and smoothness.
