Tainan Expands Reciprocal Discount Program with Japanese Sister Cities to 12 Municipalities Starting July

(CNA, reporter Yang Sirui, Tainan, June 29) Tainan City launched a reciprocal discount program for tourist attractions with its Japanese sister cities on January 1st this year. Starting July, the number of participating cities will expand to 12, and the discounts will no longer be limited to attraction entrance fees, extending to 88 surrounding restaurants and shops offering a variety of benefits.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che stated today through a press release that Tainan City, pioneering nationwide, initiated a reciprocal discount program for tourist attractions with its Japanese sister cities on January 1st. Tainan citizens visiting the cooperating Japanese cities can enjoy exclusive small perks by presenting their citizen card or ID card. The program has been widely acclaimed since its launch, leading more Japanese sister cities to express their support.

Huang Wei-che said that in addition to the original seven cities including "Yamaguchi Prefecture, Minakami Town, Nikko City, Yamagata City, Beppu City, Usa City, and Uto City," five new partners will join starting July 1st: "Shiga Prefecture, Akita City, Hirosaki City, Honjo City, and Fujinomiya City." Among these, Yamaguchi Prefecture has increased its participating discount spots from the original 4 to 18 attractions or shops. Shiga Prefecture, joining for the first time, is also offering 19 locations ready to recommend to Tainan citizens.

He added that the discount offers are very diverse. Before planning their trips to Japan, citizens can check the Tainan City Government's News and International Relations Department website for information. Many cooperating cities also provide thoughtful recommendations for nearby attractions, helping everyone plan their itineraries with greater ease.

Huang Wei-che stated that Tainan City is simultaneously offering discounts at seven well-known attractions, including Chihkan Tower, Anping Fort, Anping Tree House, Eternal Golden Castle, Tainan Municipal Museum, Shanlin Garden Waterway Museum, and Hutoupi Scenic Area, inviting citizens from Japanese sister cities to visit Tainan and enjoy the discounts.

The Tainan City Government's News and International Relations Department pointed out that the 88 participating attractions or shops have their own operating hours and discount details, which may be adjusted at any time. When verifying identity on-site, citizens must proactively present the original Tainan Citizen Card or National ID card to the staff at the announced attractions or shops.
