Tainan Man Indicted for Murder of Same-Sex Partner

(CNA reporter Yang Sirui Tainan, 29th) A 22-year-old male university student in Tainan was allegedly attacked and killed by a 25-year-old man with a knife on the street in March due to relationship issues. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office announced today that it has concluded its investigation and indicted the suspect on charges of murder and under the National Judges Act Governing the Selection of Judges.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office provided information stating that the suspect, Yao, and the victim, Huang, were in a same-sex relationship and had lived together, thus qualifying as family members under Article 3, Item 2 of the Protection of Domestic Violence Act.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated that Yao was dissatisfied with Huang's decision to break up and that Huang had ignored Yao's request for a meeting to discuss the matter, which Yao claimed was due to an illness transmitted by Huang. Driven by the intent to kill, Yao purchased a carving knife on the morning of March 14, 2026. Around 10 PM that day, in North District, Ximen Road Section 4, Tainan City, he attacked Huang with the knife, striking his neck, chest, and abdomen.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated that Huang sustained 13 sharp force injuries. Despite being rushed to the emergency room at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, he passed away around 1 AM on March 15 due to massive bleeding and hemopneumothorax caused by multiple stab and slash wounds, leading to hypovolemic shock.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated that the defendant's actions constitute murder under the Criminal Code. Given the family member relationship between the defendant and the victim, the case should be prosecuted under domestic violence laws. Following the investigation, the defendant was indicted under Article 251, Paragraph 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Article 43, Paragraph 1 of the National Act Governing the Selection of Judges.
