(CNA Taipei, June 29) Regarding Kuomintang Vice Chairman Chang Jung-kung's participation yesterday in the "6th Cross-Strait Zhongshan Forum" held in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, and related statements, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) responded today that Chang Jung-kung spends a lot of time participating in the mainland's united front activities and echoing CCP propaganda, and the people of the country will judge for themselves.
According to comprehensive media reports, this year marks the 160th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth. On June 28, Chang Jung-kung not only participated in the "6th Cross-Strait Zhongshan Forum" organized by the mainland authorities but also visited Sun Yat-sen's former residence on the same day.
According to reports, Chang Jung-kung said in an interview that the MAC's existence itself is in response to the KMT's narrative on cross-strait relations, and that the two sides are not a state-to-state relationship. The existence of the MAC today and President Lai Ching-te's advocacy of a "state-to-state relationship" are contradictory because "the Democratic Progressive Party is pushing for Taiwan independence," which is the most dangerous threat to Taiwan and cross-strait peace.
Chang Jung-kung also said that the significance of Sun Yat-sen establishing the Hsing Chung Hui in 1894 was to "revitalize China," which is consistent with the mainland's current promotion of the "great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."
He also claimed that cross-strait relations are currently facing a more complex and serious situation, and that both sides must work together to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The KMT is willing to promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations with people from all walks of life on both sides on the basis of "upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence."
