(CNA) TAICHUNG, June 29 - Police and the Taichung Customs Administration recently intercepted an international package from Thailand containing pain relief cream, which was found to have illicitly hidden Grade 2 methamphetamine. A Thai migrant worker surnamed De, who appeared to claim the package, was arrested and subsequently indicted by prosecutors.

The First Brigade of the Third Special Police Corps announced today that during an international mail inspection in April, police and the Taichung Customs Administration flagged a suspicious package from Thailand labeled as "household goods." Upon inspection, they discovered that five tubes of a well-known Thai pain relief cream were filled with pre-portioned strips of methamphetamine, totaling 55 small packets.

Following an investigation directed by the Changhua District Prosecutors Office and led by the Taichung Investigation Branch of the Third Special Police Corps, the special task force gathered evidence and identified the recipient as a Thai migrant worker in his 50s surnamed De. He was apprehended when he came to claim the package.

Police discovered that the well-known Thai pain relief cream used by the drug trafficking group to conceal the drugs is a popular item purchased by tourists visiting Thailand. The group hid the drugs within the original packaging of the cream, intending to use the cream's strong scent to evade detection by drug-sniffing dogs and customs inspections. After questioning, the man surnamed De was transferred to the Changhua District Prosecutors Office for investigation on drug-related charges, and prosecutors have since indicted him in accordance with the law.

Police stated that methamphetamine use can lead to mental excitement, hallucinations, delusions, and violent tendencies. Long-term abuse can cause permanent damage to the brain and cardiovascular system. Driving under the influence of methamphetamine can result in vehicle collisions, causing serious casualties. Drug-impaired driving endangers oneself and others. The public is urged not to use methamphetamine. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150629
