Key News on US-Iran War

(CNA Tehran, June 30 - Combined Wires) U.S. President Donald Trump said talks requested by Iran will take place tomorrow in Doha, the capital of Qatar; however, Tehran denied that it will engage in any direct negotiations with Washington on an agreement aimed at ending the Middle East war.

According to reports from Agence France-Presse and Reuters, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated today that since Tehran and Washington signed a preliminary agreement to end the Middle East war, Iran has held its first meeting with Oman to discuss the management of the Strait of Hormuz; furthermore, the U.S. and Iran have agreed to cease mutual attacks to prevent ongoing conflicts from jeopardizing their agreement.

Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, today: "Iran has requested talks, and they will take place tomorrow in Doha!" He did not specify the attendees.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt later told Fox News that Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Doha this week for high-level meetings.

However, Iran stated today that no talks have been arranged.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that Iran will send an expert delegation to Doha this week, but this trip is "unrelated to the U.S. side," and no talks have been arranged.

He said, "We have not yet reached the stage of final negotiations," and emphasized that "in the coming days, we will not hold negotiations at any level with the U.S. side."

The conflicting statements from both sides highlight the fragility of the U.S.-Iran agreement reached on June 17, which aims to end the conflict.

A senior Iranian official stated that a meeting will be held in Doha tomorrow, but unlike previous technical team talks between the U.S. and Iran in Switzerland, this meeting will focus on the management of the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalation of tensions.

Another official familiar with the matter indicated that U.S. and Iranian technical teams are expected to hold separate meetings with mediators such as Qatar and Pakistan on July 1.

Trump told reporters in the White House Oval Office: "The Doha talks may be important, or they may not be important, we will know very soon."

He reiterated that the U.S. "has the upper hand militarily" and stressed that Iran must stop developing nuclear weapons. (Compiled by Liu Wenyu) 06/30/115
