(CNA, Taipei, June 30) -- China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Foreign Minister Wang Yi has been invited to visit Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway from July 2 to 8. This will be Wang Yi's second trip to Europe this year.

According to a report by The Paper, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jia Kun stated at a regular press conference this afternoon that China's relations with Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway have developed steadily in recent years, with fruitful cooperation in areas such as green transition, trade and investment, and technological innovation. There is broad consensus on safeguarding multilateralism and free trade, and jointly addressing global challenges like climate change.

Guo Jia Kun pointed out that Wang Yi will hold talks with the foreign ministers of the four countries during his visit to exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Guo Jia Kun introduced that Denmark is China's comprehensive strategic partner in the Nordic region. This is the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister to Denmark in 15 years, and it is also the first face-to-face meeting between high-level officials of the two countries since the establishment of the new Danish government. It is expected that this visit will consolidate mutual trust, expand cooperation, enhance friendship, and promote a new chapter for the China-Denmark comprehensive strategic partnership.

He mentioned that Sweden is China's largest trading partner in the Nordic region. This is the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister to Sweden in 22 years. It is expected to strengthen communication, deepen mutual trust, expand cooperation, and consolidate the positive momentum of bilateral relations.

He said that China and Finland are future-oriented new cooperative partners. Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho, and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo have visited China successively in recent years, with close high-level exchanges between the two sides. It is expected that this visit will implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.

Guo Jia Kun pointed out that Norway is one of the first countries to recognize China's market economy status. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Støre visited China in 2024, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Norway, promoting the development of bilateral relations. It is expected that this visit will implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and exchange views on bilateral and multilateral issues such as green transition and global governance.

Wang Yi's upcoming visit to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway marks his second trip to Europe this year. His previous visit was in February this year to attend the Munich Security Conference in Germany, during which a trilateral meeting of the Chinese, German, and French foreign ministers was held. Wang Yi also held separate bilateral meetings with the French and German foreign ministers at that time. (Editor: Chou Hui-ying) 1150630
