(Central News Agency, reporter Cao Yayan, New Taipei City, June 30) - Chen Min-qun, a police officer from the Zhonghe Precinct of New Taipei City, recently passed away suddenly after working 17 consecutive hours, a loss deeply felt by the police force. Jiang Gen-huang, Speaker of the New Taipei City Council, visited the family today to offer condolences and present a condolence payment, emphasizing his commitment to fully assist in securing the most generous benefits.
Jiang Gen-huang visited the Banqiao Funeral Home today to pay his respects and console Chen Min-qun's family, according to a press release from the Zhonghe Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department. Jiang Gen-huang stated that grassroots police work is high-pressure and operates around the clock, requiring better protection of health and rights. He pledged that the council would be the strongest support for grassroots officers, would continue to pay attention to and expand coordination with resources from the Police Friends Association, charitable organizations, and other benevolent groups to provide the most substantial support to the bereaved family, and to assist in securing the highest possible benefits.
Chen Min-qun, a police officer at the Nanshi Police Station with 17 years of service, began his shift at 6 AM on the morning of the 22nd. He subsequently handled cases including drunk driving and fighting disputes. Although his shift had ended during the investigation process, due to the heavy caseload at the station, he voluntarily stayed to escort the suspects to the District Prosecutor's Office to complete the case, only finishing work and returning home to rest around 11 PM. The next day, he passed away from a cardiac arrest at the age of 45.
The Zhonghe Precinct recently launched a fundraising campaign to assist with funeral arrangements and posted a tribute on Facebook to honor Chen Min-qun. The precinct emphasized that a thorough review has been conducted, and supervisors will be strictly instructed that in situations where cases require continued handling after the end of a shift, other officers must be immediately dispatched for relief and shift changes must be implemented to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
