(CNA, reporter Yeh Chen, Taoyuan, June 30) The Taoyuan City Government's Department of Transportation announced today that starting tomorrow until the end of August, it will launch the "Summer Limited Traffic Light Timing Plan." Traffic lights at 254 intersections across the city will be optimized and their timings adjusted during off-peak daytime hours to reduce the time motorcyclists spend waiting at red lights under the summer sun.

Director of the Department of Transportation, Chang Hsin-fu, stated that the plan targets major intersections with cycle times exceeding 120 seconds. Based on past implementation results and on-site observations, a "road segment overall linkage" strategy will be employed for strategic adjustments, which can reduce the red light waiting time on main roads by an average of about 10 to 20 seconds.

The Department of Transportation said the optimization scope includes 155 intersections along Provincial Highway 1 (spanning Guishan, Taoyuan, Bade, Zhongli, Pingzhen, and Yangmei Districts), 47 intersections along Provincial Highway 1A (Guishan and Taoyuan), and 8 intersections along Provincial Highway 31 (Zhongli High-Speed Rail South Road Sections 3 to 5).

In addition, this includes 24 intersections along Provincial Road 112 (Zhongli's Zhongzheng Road Section 3 and Guanyin District's Zhongshan Road), 11 intersections along Provincial Road 114 (Changxing Road and Minzu Road Section 6), and 9 intersections along Taoyuan City Road 51 (Yongfeng Road).

Chang Hsin-fu said that a balance will be struck between traffic light linkage, smooth traffic flow, and reducing sun exposure. During the implementation period in July and August, traffic flow will be continuously monitored, and adjustments will be made dynamically based on actual weather and traffic conditions.
