(CNA, Penghu County, June 30) The "Joint Anti-Fraud Initiative of the Military, Police, Prosecutors, and Post Office" in the Penghu region broke traditional molds today, demonstrating strong determination through a four-way defense. Public-private cooperation will be used to promote anti-fraud and fraud awareness, jointly protecting the finances of military personnel and civilians.
This joint anti-fraud initiative in the Penghu region was supported today by Penghu Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing, District Prosecutor Wu Yi-ming, Penghu Defense Command Political Warfare Director Chuang Pei-yi, Police Bureau Chief Lin Shu-kuo, and Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd. Vice President Tsai Wen-ching, among others, at the Penghu District Prosecutors Office, showcasing the determination of the military, police, prosecutors, and post office in their united front against fraud.
Lin Chieh-hsing stated that fraud tactics are constantly evolving, and anti-fraud efforts are akin to combat. Only through close cooperation between cross-agency bodies and private enterprises can fraud awareness be permeated into every corner. Especially in the Penghu defense area, with nearly 8,000 officers and soldiers, the relatively simple environment often makes them targets for fraud. Therefore, in addition to preparing to defend the nation, they must also have a greater understanding of anti-fraud and fraud awareness to achieve the goal of "Protecting our beautiful homeland, I will guard it."
Chunghwa Post Vice President Tsai Wen-ching said that he traveled across the sea today to support anti-fraud efforts. Post offices, with 1,280 branches nationwide and over 30 million accounts, are core institutions for combating and preventing fraud. He revealed that last year, a fraudulent investment case involving over NT$90 million in cash was timely thwarted. This year, the Penghu branch has specially produced 10,000 anti-fraud promotional leaflets, which will be distributed to every military member and civilian. It is hoped that through intensive promotion via public-private cooperation, the finances of our fellow villagers will be jointly protected.
The Penghu County Police Bureau stated that from January to June last year, there were a total of 223 fraud cases in Penghu, with fraudulent amounts reaching over NT$168 million. In the same period this year, there were 206 cases, with fraudulent amounts of over NT$40.32 million, the majority of which were fake investments (78 cases). The decrease in fraud cases and amounts in Penghu indicates that the promotional efforts by public and private units in anti-fraud and fraud awareness have been effective in protecting people's property.
The Penghu Police Bureau expressed gratitude to the Chunghwa Post Penghu Branch for providing practical and detailed anti-fraud promotional materials. In the future, these will be distributed to various communities, financial institutions, and military units to achieve the synergistic effect of precise promotion. This is the best example of the spirit of "public-private cooperation," demonstrating the united momentum in safeguarding the security of Penghu's outlying islands. If the public encounters suspicious phone calls or online messages, remember the three steps: "Stay calm, verify, and report." You can also call the 165 anti-fraud hotline for consultation, always raising your anti-fraud awareness to reduce the occurrence of fraud cases. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150630
