(Central News Agency Reporter Hsieh Ching-wen New Taipei, June 30) Uni-Lions outfielder Wang Hsuan-yu had a strong debut in his first team appearance. After the game, he was captured striking a victory pose alone. Wang Hsuan-yu, who has an outgoing and lively personality, laughed, saying he didn't expect to be filmed for so long and have it circulate online. He also learned that every move needs to be constantly monitored.
On June 23rd, 18-year-old Uni-Lions infielder Wang Hsuan-yu was promoted to the first team for the first time and was placed in the starting lineup, batting second and playing third base. In that game, he had 2 hits in 4 at-bats, contributed 1 RBI, and recorded his first career hit, first RBI, and first single-game MVP award.
At the end of the game, Wang Hsuan-yu was captured on camera striking the victory pose previously used by the Lions' outfielders, all by himself in the infield. The footage lingered for quite some time.
Wang Hsuan-yu laughed, saying that in the minor league, he sometimes imitated the seniors' actions. There weren't as many cameras in the minor league, so he didn't expect to be filmed for so long. He also laughed, saying he was surprised to see the footage circulating. He was just doing it for fun at the time, but it taught him that every move on the first team is noticed and needs constant attention. However, if given the chance, he'd like to go to the outfield and strike the pose with the seniors.
Wang Hsuan-yu humbly attributed his strong performance in his first team debut to good luck. Coaches and seniors encouraged him to maintain it. He stated that upon joining the first team, he was prepared and didn't overthink things, focusing instead on adapting to the first team's intensity and competing for a position.
Wang Hsuan-yu also mentioned that observing what the seniors do on the first team is also a form of learning, from strengthening exercises at the stadium, warm-ups, to relaxation and physical therapy. The seniors are very clear about what needs to be done and when.
Yesterday, the Lions selected high school shortstop Huang Ching-che, a recent graduate, in the first round of the draft. Huang also has an outgoing and lively personality. Wang Hsuan-yu said he knows Huang Ching-che quite well and they chat when they meet during high school games. He praised Huang Ching-che's athletic ability, noting his on-field style is similar to that of players from Central and South America. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150630
