(CNA, Kuala Lumpur, June 30) -- More than 12 years after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the Malaysian government has announced an extension of its agreement with marine exploration company Ocean Infinity to continue searching for the wreckage of MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean. The search operation will be extended for 12 months from July 1, until June 30, 2027.

The New Straits Times reported that Malaysian Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook stated that the cabinet approved the extension of the search agreement on June 26, and it will take effect from July 1.

The extended agreement maintains the existing contract terms, operating on a "no find, no fee" basis. The fee of US$70 million (approximately NT$2.23167 billion) will only be paid upon the recovery of the wreckage.

Loke Siew Fook pointed out that this decision also demonstrates the Malaysian government's commitment to seeking the truth for the families of the passengers and crew of the missing flight.

The Boeing 777 aircraft, carrying 239 people, vanished from radar screens on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The incident remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in aviation history. Malaysian authorities have conducted multiple searches in the southern Indian Ocean, all without success.
