(Central News Agency, Reporter Zhang Yilian, Kaohsiung, June 30) A car driver surnamed He was driving with his wife and child along Zhongshan Road in Lujhu District, Kaohsiung last night. For unknown reasons, he veered into the slow lane and collided with two motorcycles, resulting in the deaths of the two motorcycle riders. Mr. He was indicted for negligent homicide after police questioning.
Police officers from the Kaohsiung City Police Department, Lih Nei Precinct, explained that Mr. He, 24, was driving with his wife, Ms. Jiang, and child around 7 p.m. yesterday, traveling north on Zhongshan Road. For unknown reasons, he veered from the fast lane into the slow lane and collided with two motorcycles.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the accident caused Mr. He to sustain abrasions to his head and limbs, and his two passengers sustained minor abrasions. Mr. Li, a 40-year-old motorcycle rider, sustained multiple abrasions and was rushed to the hospital by paramedics, but his life could not be saved. Mr. Pan, a 30-year-old Vietnamese motorcycle rider, sustained severe injuries and died after being taken to the hospital.
Police stated that Mr. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs. After questioning, he was transferred to the Qiaotou District Prosecutor's Office for investigation on charges of negligent homicide.
