Taipei, July 1 (CNA) -- With the support of the Ministry of Culture's Black Tide Project, Taiwanese art exhibitions have repeatedly appeared on the international stage, even leading to the British Museum collecting Taiwanese works. The Ministry of Culture announced today that applications are now open until July 31 for the 2026-2027 Cultural Black Tide Subsidy for International Exhibitions by Mid-Career and Senior Artists.
The Ministry of Culture held a "2026 Cultural Black Tide Subsidy for International Exhibitions by Mid-Career and Senior Artists Achievement Sharing Session" today, inviting artists Hsueh Pao-chia, Aluaiy Kaumakan (Wu Yu-ling), Ho Meng-ju, and Yu Cheng-ta, as well as curators Yang Chia-ling, Chen Chien-chin, and Lu Wei-lun, to gather at C-LAB (Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab) to share their achievements in holding international exhibitions.
Among them, Yang Chia-ling and Chen Chien-chin, professors at the University of Edinburgh College of Art, co-curated "Lyricism. Violence: Contemporary Taiwanese Art in London" in collaboration with Gin Huang Gallery and Yow Gallery in London. This exhibition led to the British Museum collecting works by Hsueh Pao-chia, Chen Chun-hao, and Li Ruo-mei this year.
Hsueh Pao-chia stated today that she is grateful for the Ministry of Culture's support, which has led major international arts and cultural institutions to begin paying attention to and collecting contemporary Taiwanese art.
Artist Yu Cheng-ta, with his created virtual character "FAMEME," was invited by the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo to participate in its 30th-anniversary exhibition. Yu Cheng-ta added that following the exhibition, he was further invited to exhibit at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum and the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf in Germany, enhancing the international visibility of Taiwanese artists.
Aluaiy Kaumakan (Wu Yu-ling) was successively invited to participate in the "Helsinki Biennial" in Finland and the "Sharjah Biennial" in the United Arab Emirates. During the exhibition at the Helsinki Biennial, her work received widespread media coverage both domestically and internationally. At the Sharjah Biennial, her exhibition area was featured on the homepage recommendation of the biennial's official website.
Last fall, Ho Meng-ju successfully entered Central and Eastern Europe. Collaborating with curators from the Czech Republic and Ukraine, she held solo exhibitions in both countries and compiled a book on feminist and image discourse. This was followed by a touring exhibition in Poland and led to cross-border collaboration opportunities, including sponsorship from an American foundation.
The Ministry of Culture stated in a press release that it launched the Cultural Black Tide Project in 2024 to provide resources to support mid-career and senior artists in reaching the international stage. To date, it has facilitated international exposure for over 200 artists, including Tehching Hsieh, Chen Chien-jen, Lai Chun-chen, and Shen Chao-liang. The ministry will continue to make waves through the Cultural Black Tide Project.
The Ministry of Culture also announced that applications for the 2026-2027 Cultural Black Tide Subsidy for International Exhibitions by Mid-Career and Senior Artists are being accepted online from today until July 31. (Editor: Yang Sheng-ru) 1150701
