(CNA reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, July 1st) With summer here, the Taipei Zoo announced today that starting July 4th, under the theme "Night Zoo: A Journey of Light and Shadow," it will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its night opening. A total of 9 Saturdays in July and August will allow visitors to explore 9 major exhibits at night, with the Temperate Zone and Penguin House open for the first time.

The zoo explained that for its 20th anniversary of night openings in 2026, 9 major exhibits will extend their hours until 9 PM. These include the Taiwan Animal Area, Desert Animal Area, Children's Zoo, Insectarium, Koala House, Amphibian and Reptile House, and Giant Panda House, along with the newly opened Temperate Zone and Penguin House. Admission after 4 PM will be NT$60, with ticket sales stopping after 8 PM.

The zoo stated that this year it is launching three weekly themes: "Secret Lives of Nocturnal Animals," "Night Owls," and "Night Migration." These will be complemented by the popular "Nighttime Animal Keeper's Talk," where keepers will share little-known stories about the animals' lives.

Additionally, the zoo mentioned that a "Luminous Encounter Painting" will be set up in front of the Education Center, which is also an open area. It will provide limited luminous body decoration materials, allowing visitors to paint colorful fluorescent patterns on their skin. Fluorescent lights will also be installed in five major tunnels, including the black bear tree hollow in the Taiwan Animal Area, the tunnel in the African Animal Area, and the tunnel at Bird Park Station, to create a midsummer fluorescent party.
