(CNA reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, July 1) A male police officer in Taipei, identified by his surname Cai, was stopped for an inspection while on his way to see a doctor yesterday. A preliminary saliva drug test showed a positive result. It is understood that the substances detected are similar to prescription medication Cai was taking. The case has been handed over to the authorities, and further clarification will be sought based on the urine test results.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Taipei City Police Department stated in a press release this evening that an officer from the division, surnamed Cai, was driving in Wenshan District yesterday morning on his way to a medical appointment. He was observed to be unsteady after stopping his vehicle and getting out. Patrol officers on duty conducted a saliva drug screening test, which yielded a positive result for a specific substance, raising suspicions of a public endangerment offense.

The City Criminal Investigation Division stated that they are actively cooperating with the district police to investigate the matter strictly and promptly. The case has been processed according to standard procedures, including issuing a citation, impounding the vehicle, and proceeding with a legal search, arrest, and transfer to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation.

Following the incident, police searched Cai's vehicle and residence but found no illegal drugs or contraband. His urine was subsequently collected for testing. Preliminary tests conducted by the委驗機構 (testing agency) for methamphetamine came back negative.

It is understood that Officer Cai has had some health issues and has been receiving regular medical treatment and medication for a long time. His work performance has been normal.

The City Criminal Investigation Division stated that, considering Officer Cai's health condition, he has recently been taking controlled substances prescribed by a doctor, and relevant prescriptions have been provided. The department will determine the appropriate disciplinary action based on the final test results and the ongoing investigation.

The City Criminal Investigation Division reiterated its commitment to upholding ethical standards and stated that in cases of police misconduct, they will adhere to the principles of "no injustice, no indulgence" and "no concealment, no shielding, no covering up" to thoroughly investigate the facts and maintain the reputation of the police force.
