(CNA, Taipei, July 1) Former DPP Secretary-General and former Taisugar Chairman Wu Nai-jen, who was detained in connection with a Taisugar land case, has been released after the creditor, Taisugar Company, withdrew its request for custody. Taisugar explained that the debtor Wu Nai-jen's representative lawyer promised to submit a negotiation or repayment plan before July 20, achieving the purpose of custody to compel the debtor to negotiate and repay the debt. The custody request was withdrawn due to the court appearance, not an active withdrawal.
Taisugar stated in a press release tonight that the debtor's representative lawyer emphasized during the trial that they would negotiate the debt with Taisugar and submit a repayment plan, promising to do so by July 20 at the latest.
Taisugar stated that on June 22, the Taiwan High Court (Taichung) held a hearing regarding Wu Nai-jen's custody. Taisugar's representative, based on the achieved purpose of custody to "compel the debtor to appear for negotiation and debt repayment," withdrew the custody request due to the court appearance, not an active withdrawal.
Taisugar emphasized that its request for custody was to compel the debtor to fulfill their repayment obligations and protect its creditor rights, not for punishment or as a final objective.
Taisugar stated that it will closely monitor the repayment plan to protect the company's rights. If the debtor does not appear for negotiations, it will again request custody from the court.
The Taiwan Taichung District Court stated today that the case involved Wu Nai-jen appealing his detention. During the trial at the Taiwan High Court (Taichung), the creditor Taisugar Company withdrew its request, and the court granted his release and issued a release order. The Taichung Detention Center received the release order on the afternoon of June 22 and released Wu Nai-jen according to law the same day. Subsequent actions will be taken based on the creditor's claims and reporting to the court according to law. (Editor: Chang Chun-mao) 1150701
