(CNA Taipei, July 1, 2024) Paraguayan Foreign Minister Ramirez has stated that Paraguay is willing to establish trade relations with China, provided it does not come at the expense of its diplomatic ties with Taiwan. Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu stated today that as long as Taiwan's diplomatic relations are secure, Taiwan maintains an open attitude towards global economic and trade development.
According to AFP, during a summit of the "Southern Common Market" leaders held in Paraguay, Ramirez said on June 30 that Paraguay does not reject establishing trade relations with China, as long as it is not a prerequisite for Paraguay's existing diplomatic relationship with Taiwan.
Joseph Wu attended the 30th anniversary celebration of the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) this morning and spoke to reporters afterward. He stated that Taiwan's relations with its allies are very stable, particularly its firm diplomatic ties with Paraguay, especially after Paraguayan President Santiago Pena's recent visit to Taiwan. Taiwan exports the "Taiwan Model" through its diplomatic allies.
Wu pointed out that Taiwan also has economic and trade relations with China. As long as Taiwan's diplomatic relations with its allies are secure, Taiwan has always maintained an open attitude towards global economic and trade development. Taiwan's allies also engage in economic and trade exchanges with China and other countries worldwide. (Editor: Su Chih-tsung) 1150701
