New Taipei Bali's 30-Day Companionship Adoption Program Allows Pets to Be Returned Without Being Listed as Rejects

(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 1) - Adopting a furry friend now comes with a trial period. To help mixed-breed adult cats and dogs find new homes and to alleviate any burden on adopters considering returning a pet, the New Taipei Animal Protection Office has launched the "30-Day Companionship Adoption Program" at the Bali Animal Shelter, creating a win-win situation where more furry friends can be seen.

The New Taipei City Government Animal Protection and Disease Control Office stated in a press release that shelter animals, especially older ones, are just as eager to find a home. The Bali Animal Shelter's "30-Day Companionship Adoption Program" aims to allow potential adopters to spend time with the animals, understand each other, and ultimately become family.

Liu Ke-yin, an animal protection officer at the Bali Animal Shelter, explained that the idea for the "30-Day Companionship Adoption Program" stems from the fact that many potential adopters are like consumers who have a "trial period" for purchases. During the 30 days, the animals will still enjoy all the welfare benefits provided by the Animal Protection Office, and potential adopters can return them unconditionally within this period without being listed as rejected adopters.

The Animal Protection Office stated that since the program began in May of this year, it has successfully matched 2 families. The 30 days of companionship can become a lifelong commitment. Even if a pet is returned to the shelter during the program for various reasons, having experienced "family life" will make the animal more mature and stable, increasing its chances of being adopted next time.
