(CNA reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, Wang Hung-kuo New Taipei July 1) New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih said today that over 20,000 people took the MRT San Ying Line on its first day of operation, and that efforts will continue to improve shortcomings with the goal of 100% citizen satisfaction. The MRT company stated that the train frequency can be as close as every 2.2 to 3 minutes.

New Taipei MRT Bureau Director Li Cheng-an, MRT Company Chairman Lin Yu-hsien, and Transportation Bureau Director Chung Ming-shih attended a city government meeting today to report on the first day of the MRT San Ying Line's trial operation yesterday.

Chung Ming-shih said that observers at each MRT station found that public bus transfer services were operating normally, and that while there were some YouBike sharing bicycles missing, they were immediately dispatched and replenished.

Li Cheng-an said that after the line opened, many passengers rushed to experience it, and some passengers rode it twice. Statistics show that over 20,000 people rode the line on the first day, and the crowds eased after the peak hours.

The San Ying Line fully adopts a "fully automated driverless system." New Taipei MRT Company General Manager Wu Kuo-chi, who was busy handling unfamiliar situations encountered by passengers at various stations today, told CNA reporters by phone that on the first day of trial operation on June 30, from 2 PM to 8 PM, the ridership reached 20,731 person-times within 6 hours.

He said that the San Ying Line uses 2-car train sets. To properly cope with passenger crowds, New Taipei MRT will add trains flexibly based on the on-site situation. The train frequency on the San Ying Line can be as close as every 2.2 to 3 minutes. The overall train operation was smooth and normal, and all trains departed on time.

To allow citizens to familiarize themselves with the new route, "free trial operation" will be offered for 2 months from July 1 to August 31. The daily operating hours will be from 10 AM to 8 PM, for a total of 10 hours.

Wu Kuo-chi said that the main purpose of the trial operation is to "test passenger load pressure" and collect "actual passenger feedback." A longer non-operating period at night is reserved for system fine-tuning and parameter optimization of the electric trains' door opening and closing, stopping accuracy, and acceleration/deceleration smoothness.

Hou Yu-ih told reporters that he thanked citizens for experiencing the 12 stations on the San Ying Line, and that most feedback was positive. A few isolated issues were immediately improved, including replenishing insufficient YouBikes. These do not affect train operations. Subsequent adjustments and improvements will be made with the goal of 100% citizen satisfaction. (Edited by Lung Po-an) 1150701
