(CNA, Los Angeles, July 1) - The Houston Astros' official website announced today that the previous procedure to option Taiwanese pitcher Teng Kai-wei to the minor leagues has been canceled, and he has instead been placed on the 15-day injured list.

The official website stated that Teng Kai-wei suffered a right knee sprain and is undergoing rehabilitation at the team's facility in Florida as arranged by the team. He is expected to return to a relief pitcher role after rehabilitation.

The Houston Astros had originally announced on June 28 that Teng Kai-wei would be optioned to Triple-A. The team has now rescinded this move and placed Teng Kai-wei on the 15-day injured list at the major league level.

Teng Kai-wei pitched 3.2 innings against the Detroit Tigers on the 27th, allowing 5 runs. Following the game, the Astros made roster changes, optioning Teng Kai-wei to Triple-A. At the time, Teng Kai-wei told American media that he was a bit fatigued.

American media reports indicate that Teng Kai-wei's injury occurred before his option.

Sports Illustrated reporter Laura Lambert pointed out that Teng Kai-wei's recent poor performance may be related to his injury.

In his last 7 starts, Teng Kai-wei pitched 33 innings, giving up 37 hits and 22 earned runs, with an ERA of 6.00 during that period. (Editor: Chen Hui-ping) 1150702
